  • Check in is at 3pm on the day of your arrival. You can drop off luggage earlier from midday onwards. We will email you a unique entry code and instructions when you book.
  • Check out time is at midday on the day of your departure.
  • All platforms like AirBnB and Vrbo have booking fees and commission that usually add up to an extra 20-30% of the total fee. By booking direct you avoid all of these! Because each platform has different rates you will need to enter the same details on their site as well to get an exact comparison.
  • You can get a full refund up to a week before, no questions asked. Then we offer a 50% refund up to 24 hours before your check in time.
  • Both apartments have two bedrooms with superking 6ft wide beds, so you'll sleep four people in each very comfortably. The sitting room downstairs has a single daybed and sofa bed, so you'll get three more in there but it will feel cosy! Upstairs there's a comfy double sofa-bed, but you walk through the sitting room to get to a bedroom. Extra people beyond four is better for families, particularly given that there is one bathroom in each flat.

Please let us know if you need the sofa-beds and/or daybed to be ready for when you arrive (we will also send instructions on how to set them up). There's no extra charge for this. Please don't use the gas fires or blow heaters when the sofa-beds are extended.
  • Yes, pets are allowed provided they are house-trained!
  • The pillows and duvets are all goose and duck down, but we can provide alternatives. If you let us know a few days before your stay we can usually accommodate most allergies.
  • No the apartments are always stocked with all essentials. The bathrooms have towels, toilet roll, shampoo, shower gel and soap. The bedrooms have hairdryers, sheets, extra pillows and blankets and hangers in the wardrobes. The kitchens have pots, pans, salt pepper, cooking oils, cafetieres, plates, cutlery (including chopsticks) etc. Each apartment also has an iron, first aid kit, fire blanket and extinguisher. If you find that any of these things are not available please let us know immediately and we will replace.
  • Yes, the ground floor apartment has an integrated washer & dryer. There are separate washer dryer units upstairs and washing powder is provided.
  • No, the whole house is strictly no smoking, including the garden.
  • Prince's Place is on a residential road so usually very peaceful. It is a historic Victorian house however, so if you are in the ground floor apartment you can hear people walking in the apartment above. This is rarely a problem, but if you're concerned please book the first floor home instead.
  • No, there are no parties allowed in Prince's Place (see FAQ above about noise). You're welcome to book both homes to sleep up to 13 people, but please be mindful of the neighbours: the house is great for big shared dinners and board game / movie nights - not so much for raves.

If you've booked a single apartment please remember that the other one may also be occupied and sound can travel through the old victorian floors - please no loud music!
  • We have one travel cot and a high chair adapter that can be set up in your apartment. Please add a note as soon as you book so we can be sure they're reserved for your stay. If you're using the gas fire upstairs, please use the guards to protect young children.
  • The front garden for Regent's Chambers is visible from Princes Street and Etherley Lane. The rear garden is secure, but please note it is overlooked by the neighbouring property and shared between both apartments.
  • Yes! Both apartments have central heating which will be on if you arrive when it's cold outside. It's easy to turn up via the Nest thermostat and if you need even more you can plug in extra electric heaters, blow heaters or the oil fired portable radiators. Please switch them off whenever you go out though! There are also extra sheets and blankets you can use in each home.
  • The address is #1 Princes Street, Bishop Auckland, DL14 1AA. All online maps and satnavs will direct drivers here.

Bishop Auckland railway station is a short walk away. There are regular trains there until about 11pm and buses from Darlington until midnight from Monday to Saturday. Please check Northern Rail's website for Sunday and holiday timetables.
  • There is on street parking available along the Etherley Lane side of the house. Please use that stretch of road and do not park in front of neighbours' houses unless you want a note on your windscreen!

During the Kynren summer festival weekends there are parking restrictions throughout Bishop Auckland, but we have permits you can use. Please leave them behind when you go.
  • Regent's Chambers on the ground floor has wide doorways and is step-free inside, but to reach the entrance door you have to navigate three steps down and then a pebbled garden. It has a step-up walk in shower but the WC and bath don't have grab handles.

Prince's Eyrie above has more than one flight of stairs and the entrance stairs are smaller than standard, which can make them tricky to navigate with mobility issues. The bathroom has a combined bath & shower and is a 3-step flight down from the hallway level.

To get into each apartment we will email you a code that you have to enter into the number pads on the door handles.
